2013 US Mint Proof Set

The 2013 US Mint Proof Set appears from the United States Mint with a total of fourteen coins representing the circulating coinage of the nation. These fourteen coins of the Proof Set are each struck from the same clad composition as found in their circulating counterparts.

However, unlike circulating coins, each strike of the set is produced to proof quality. This numismatic finish is generally sought after by many collectors as it typically results in a strike with a higher level of detail.

The United States Mint offers this explanation of the Proof Set:

"The coins in the popular United States Mint Proof Set are manufactured using specially prepared, highly polished dies.  The coins are extraordinarily brilliant, with sharp relief and a mirror-like background.  A frosted, sculpted foreground gives them a special cameo effect.  The coins are sealed in three protective lenses to accentuate and maintain their exceptional finish.  A Certificate of Authenticity is included with each set."

All of the coins of the set are struck at the US Mint's facility in San Francisco. Thus, each bears the 'S' mintmark indicating the San Francisco facility.
