Each coin in the set is struck to proof quality at the US Mint's facility in San Francisco. This differs from the standard circulation quality America the Beautiful Quarters which are struck at either the US Mint's facility in Philadelphia or the facility in Denver.

The five coins included in the 2013 Quarters Proof Set are:

Designs emblematic of the selected sites of national interest are found on the reverse of the coins.

The obverse of each America the Beautiful Quarter contains the same portrait of George Washington as originally designed by John Flanagan for the 1932 circulating quarter dollar. That same image has appeared on quarters ever since, with some minor changes.

Packaging for the 2013 Quarters Proof Set has been updated for the release. A short description provided by the US Mint follows:

"The United States Mint will debut new packaging for this product in 2013.  The image on the front of the outer carton is Mount Rushmore National Memorial, the last quarter of the year.  The images on the back of the carton include each national park or site, its name, the state, and the year in which the park was established as a national site"

The United States Mint also issued a 2013 Quarters Silver Proof Set which contains the same five America the Beautiful Quarters struck from 90% silver instead of the clad composition found in this set.
