2011 United States Mint America the Beautiful Quarters Silver Proof Set

2011 United States Mint America the Beautiful Quarters Silver Proof Set

The 2011 United States Mint America the Beautiful Quarters Silver Proof Set™ contains 90% silver proof versions of the 2011 strikes of the US Mints America the Beautiful Quarters® Program.

It will be released on April 1, 2011 at $41.95, which is $2 more than the Mint had planned on earlier in the year. The rising price of silver pushed the set's price higher on March 18, 2011.

Typical circulating quarter dollars of the Mint America the Beautiful Quarters® program are struck from a cupro-nickel composition at either the US Mint's facility in Philadelphia or the US Mint's facility in Denver. However, these silver proof coins are produced at the US Mint's facility in San Francisco and carry the 'S' mintmark.

Coins included in this set are:

  • 2011-S Silver Gettysburg America the Beautiful Quarter
  • 2011-S Silver Glacier America the Beautiful Quarter
  • 2011-S Silver Olympic America the Beautiful Quarter
  • 2011-S Silver Vicksburg America the Beautiful Quarter
  • 2011-S Silver Chickasaw America the Beautiful Quarter

Reverse designs on these quarters are emblematic of selected sites of national interest from around the United States. The coins above represent Gettysburg National Military Park in Pennsylvania, Glacier National Park in Montana, Olympic National Park in Washington, Vicksburg National Military Park in Mississippi and Chickasaw National Recreation Area in Oklahoma, respectively.

The United States Mint debuted the America the Beautiful Quarters Program in 2010. Under the program, five new sites are honored annually with one site chosen from each state, the District of Columbia and the five US Territories. This totals fifty-six locations to be featured under the program which is scheduled to run until the year 2021.

On the obverse of each of the coins is still featured the portrait of former President of the United States George Washington, as designed by John Flanagan. This same portrait has been used on the quarter dollar in one form or another since 1932.

The United States Mint offers several different types of proof set in 2011, including:

  • 2011 US Mint Proof Set
  • 2011 US Mint Silver Proof Set
  • 2011 America the Beautiful Quarters Quarters Proof Set
  • 2011 US Mint Presidential Dollars Proof Set

Note that the list contains a clad set with the same quarters.

These sets are available at the Mint's website http://www.usmint.gov/.
