The United States Mint placed the 2009 DC and US Territories Quarters Silver Proof Set on sale March 23, 2009, for the price of $29.95.

The set contains 90% silver proof versions of the 2009 DC & US Territories Quarters struck at the US Mint facility in San Francisco (each quarter-dollar bears an "S" mint mark). The coins include the:

  • 2009-S Proof District of Columbia Quarter
  • 2009-S Proof Puerto Rico Quarter
  • 2009-S Proof Guam Quarter
  • 2009-S Proof American Samoa Quarter
  • 2009-S Proof US Virgin Islands Quarter
  • 2009-S Proof Northern Mariana Islands Quarter

The six coins is one more than offered in the prior year 50 States Quarters® proof set, and the price tag for the 2009 set was shifted $4.00 higher because of that. The intrinsic silver value of the coins is more than many collectors expect. The quarters combined have 0.868 ounces of silver. Using a silver price of $16.89 an ounce, which was the London price of silver on Sept. 11, 2009, the value of the silver content within the coins is $18.33.
